My brother just became Executive Director of Abaarso Network.
August 17th is … well … this explains it better than I could:
Thinking about supporting an Abaarso School? The time has never been better as Match Day is one week away! Donate to Abaarso School via The School Fund on August 17th and have every dollar you donate matched (up to $2,000 per individual donor)! The School Fund is hosting their annual Match Day on August 17th. All funds raised for individual Abaarso School students are matched on this day by the generosity of The School Fund.
My father visited recently, and we went to a minor league baseball game. Had similarities to the one I went to a few years back in Arkansas. This one had more offense and worse pitching.
I just had a campaign end. I will have another campaign end soon. L5R in the future seems unclear between FFG version and Adventures in Rokugan and whether just to ignore all of that and play home games with version already like.
While I have an idea I keep fleshing out in my mind for a new L5R campaign, I need to feel motivated to actually run a game.
So, what is next?
Something familiar like trying to determine whether the pitcher was throwing a slider or a change-up at 84mph even though my interest in baseball is vastly lower than it once was?
Something more adventurous like taking on new responsibilities to learn new mechanics or thematics or skills of how to play a different game?
There are plenty of RPGs I’m interested in that I used to be more interested in when I wasn’t so defeatist about being able to play them regularly. There are CCGs that I’ve been mostly or completely ignoring for long stretches.
There are RPGs I own that I’ve never looked at. I still haven’t cracked the shrink wrap on 7th Sea 2e. I have Legends of Avallen that I haven’t cracked. Heroes of Tara. Atlantis: The Second Age.
I could try to rebuild a play group for Traveller CCG. Try to organize Shadowfist play. Figure out how to get VTES in. But, the demo I missed at Gen Con was a new CCG – how hard do I pursue learning about that?
Starship Horizons is something my TD group is either into or getting more into, and it’s playable outside of conventions. Not every game that I’m happy to play is necessarily a RPG or CCG.
Maybe get back to Gloomhaven or try out Frosthaven.
Still haven’t played Alpha Strike. That’s kind of a significant thing as I got a lot of mechs in that BattleTech Kickstarter.
While I’m largely stuck in the mindset of what to do next with L5R 4e or what will happen when Shadowfist Kickstarter is live, there is this possibility of breaking out of the familiar and discovering or rediscovering something that’s just different. Maybe that would be firetastic.
Of course, so much of gaming is having other people to game with. But. However, I found VTES players when I wanted to bleed more. I built up groups … to some extent … for Babylon 5 or L5R.
I do have to be conscious of how much time any endeavor would take. And, yet, I spend far more time than I need to thinking about True Dungeon – it’s not that complicated unless you are wheeling and dealing constantly, which I could do to massage my collection more into what I want it to be.
I could read more books, even things like mysteries, as I get inspiration for RPGs from everything. That could get me inspired on a type of game. Though, who is going to play that game?
Could even try popular RPGs, like play D&D 5e somewhere other than in China. Practice some two-headed giant sealed Magic.
I have one session of RPEX scheduled in the Fall. Maybe that will interest me more than I think.
To answer the question above, there are plenty of people in the world besides those that I already know. It’s not impossible to play games with those people, too.
